St. Louis on the Air – 5/28

Today the focus of KWMU’s St. Louis on the Air was financial literacy.  Host Don Marsh was joined by three guests all working within the St. Louis community to increase financial literacy—Suzanne Gellman, Consumer Economics Specialist at University of Missouri Extension; Cassandra Kaufman, Director of Community Investment at the United Way of Greater St. Louis; and Yvonne Maldonado, Youth Specialist at Kingdom House. 

The program covered many topics, including recent credit card legislation, teaching young children about financial responsibility, and much more.

2009 Housing Summit

The Economic Development Center of St. Charles County, Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles and HOME St. Charles will host the 2009 Housing Summit: A Community Forum on Trends, Possibilities & Changes in the Future of Housing in St. Charles County.  Presenters are Dr. Elliot Eisenberg, Senior Economist, National Association of Home Builders; and Greg Prestemon, President & CEO, EDC of St. Charles County.

The summit will be on June 2nd from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, MO.  A continental breakfast is served, but registration is required to attend the event.

This American Life: No Map

A few weeks ago This American Life aired an episode called “No Map.”  One of the topics covered was the mortgage crisis, and the fact that many people who are facing foreclosure have “no map”–no past experience, no guidelines–for facing the mortgage crisis.

Hosted by Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, this financial literacy conference for women will feature The Huffington Post finance blogger Manisha Thakor. Breakout sessions include Make Every Dollar Count, Cashing Out — Live the Life You Want, and Eve-olution – Investing for Financial Empowerment.  Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m., and the conference will run from 8:45 a.m to 1:30 p.m.
